Failure to obtain space for our bikes on the Scotrail train service from Blair Atholl to Kingussie had our intrepid duo searching for an alternative plan now that our first choice option of tackling the Gaick Pass was on hold for the time being. Dave had a cunning plan and that was to re-visit the Linn of Dee and to complete the loop route taking in White Bridge, Corrour Bothy and Derry Lodge. This was unfinished business dating back to April of this year when an abundance of snow called a halt to our progress at Luibeg bridge forcing us to retreat.
So with out much further a do that was that decided and it was a case of strapping the bikes on to the roof of my Nissan Qashqai, jumping in and heading northwards for my fourth visit of the year to Braemar. Parking once again at the Linn of Dee we headed out to White Bridge and from there past the Chest of Dee into Glen Dee to eventually arrive at the Corrour Bothy for a belated lunch. Once refreshed it was back on the bikes as we contoured around the lower slopes of Carn a Mhaim, past our old nemesis, Luibeg bridge and down into Gleann Laoigh Bheag and a sedate cycle down to Derry Lodge. From there it was a case of watching out for the walkers as we made our way back at a fair lick to the car on the very good estate land rover tracks.
All in all another good day out, there was more than a bit of hike and bike in places, beautiful scenery, ferocious midges, annoying drainage channels and a nice downhill section to the River Luibeg.
